COAST is a local organisation which represents the Community of Arran, most of whose 1800 members are Arran-based; this is about 20% of the population. The project has been supported [in fact, demanded] by the local community and its progress has been encouraged by a series of well-attended public meetings and by the support of the local newspaper.
