Dolphins and Porpoises - All year.

Any coastline but mainly to the south and east especially from the ferries.

Please be aware that porpoises are the most common 'cetacean'.

Otters - All year

Coast and shore, mainly to the south and west.

Look out especially at dawn and dusk and in February when young are born.

Red deer - All year

Found all over the north of the island.

 

Lochranza Golf Course is the best place for a close up view but please do not feed them.

The rut in September/October is especially spectacular, but stay away from stags!

 

Red squirrels - All year

Brodick Castle gardens and any Forestry Commission woodlands.

 

All squirrels on Arran are red squirrels.

 

Seals (common and grey) - All year

“Seal Car-park” at Merkland. The shore by Kildonan, Newton Shore or Lochranza.

 

Most of Arran’s seals are common seals and pup in June, however there are some grey seals which pup during the autumn.
