Geology - Arran Wildlife Festival

Welcome to the best geology in Scotland! Arran's rocks tell a story stretching over 1000 million years. Igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks are found here, representing periods of mountain building, tropical seas, hot deserts, volcanoes and underground cauldrons of magma – it’s all here, and Arran is justly famous as an ideal introduction to the study of rocks, and a place to appreciate the link between the rocks and the shape of the land at different scales.

North Glen Sannox Walk
This walk takes you along a glacial valley where you will see the oldest rocks on the island, past preserved pillow lavas and up to the edge of the youngest rocks, the Granites which form the spectacular Northern Hills of Arran.

There is some rough walking.     More Inland Walks
